Last weekend, Glenn van Straalen rode together with the EAB Racing Team as a wildcard rider in the Italian Supersport Championship (CIV). It was a good weekend at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. With a second and first place, the young Dutchman has a good test in preparation for the world championship that will take place here at the beginning of June.
Friday we saw one free practice session and the first qualifying session. It is therefore important to create the right feeling with the motorcycle as quickly as possible. On Saturday morning it was time for the second qualifying session, followed by the first race of the weekend. Sunday afternoon we closed with the second race in the Italian championship.
During the first race there was a front group of four riders. It was a great race of fourteen laps, in which many positions were changed. It was exciting until the last moment and Glenn crossed the finish line in second place.
On Sunday afternoon we saw a copy of the first race. Again we saw a leading group of four riders, in which positions were changed several times. In the closing stages, the leader of the group made some mistakes, allowing the EAB Racing Team rider to take the lead and take home the victory.
Overall it was a positive weekend for the 22-year-old Dutchman, who was very pleased with the course of the race weekend in Italy afterwards.
Glenn: “It was a good training in Misano during the CIV Supersport Championship. We rode two good races in which we had nice fights for the lead. I’m happy with the two podiums here in Italy and the feeling with the Yamaha YZF-R6 is very good. We will now prepare for the fourth round of the world championship which will take place in Barcelona this weekend. I want to thank the EAB Racing Team for this weekend.”
From Italy, Glenn will go straight to Spain where the next race will take place on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya next weekend. It is the fourth round of the World Supersport Championship. We will keep you informed via the social media of GVS-Racing.
Dubbel podium voor Glenn van Straalen tijdens gastoptreden Italiaans kampioenschap
Afgelopen weekend reed Glenn van Straalen samen met het EAB Racing Team als gastrijder in het Italiaanse supersport kampioenschap (CIV). Het was een goed weekend op het Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. Met een tweede en eerste plaats kent de jonge Nederlander een waardevolle test ter voorbereiding op het wereldkampioenschap dat hier begin juni plaatsvindt.
De vrijdag stond in het teken van één vrije training en de eerste kwalificatie. Het wat dus zaak om zo snel mogelijk het juiste gevoel met de motorfiets te creëren. Op zaterdagochtend was het de beurt voor de tweede kwalificatie, gevolgd door de eerste race van het weekend. Zondagmiddag sloten we af met de tweede wedstrijd in het Italiaans kampioenschap.
Tijdens de eerste wedstrijd ontstond er een kopgroep van vier rijders. Het was een mooie wedstrijd van veertien ronden, waarin er veel van positie werd gewisseld. Het was tot op het laatste moment spannend en Glenn kwam uiteindelijk als tweede over de finishlijn.
Op zondagmiddag zagen we een kopie van de eerste wedstrijd. Wederom zagen we een kopgroep van vier rijders, waarin meerdere malen van positie werd gewisseld. In de slotfase maakte de leider van de groep enkele fouten, waardoor de EAB Racing Team coureur toe kon slaan en zodoende de winst wist te pakken.
Overal was het een positief weekend voor de 22-jarige Nederlander, die na afloop zeer te spreken was over het verloop van het wedstrijdweekend in Italië.
Glenn: “Het was een goede training hierin Misano tijdens het CIV Supersport kampioenschap. We hebben twee goede wedstrijden gereden waarin we leuke gevechten hadden om de koppositie. Ik ben blij met de twee podiumplaatsen hier in Italië en het gevoel met de Yamaha YZF-R6 is erg goed. We gaan ons nu opmaken voor de vierde wedstrijd van het wereldkampioenschap wat komend weekend plaatsvindt in Barcelona. Ik wil het EAB Racing Team bedanken voor dit weekend.”
